Sectors

Different Sectors. Same Challenge.

Whether it's a sports club, a luxury brand, a creative agency, or a cultural institution, every great organisation succeeds by staying close to its people.

That’s where we come in.

Process

From curiosity to clarity.

We start with a question, not an assumption. Then we head out into the world to uncover first-hand understanding that becomes an interactive insight experience, designed to inform decisions long after the research is complete.

Every project begins with a question worth answering.

We leave the desk behind and meet people where life actually happens.

Through conversations, observation, and curiosity, we gather first-hand understanding from the people who shape your future.

Stories become patterns. Patterns become strategy. Everything starts to make sense.

Where research comes alive. Every story, voice, pattern, and possibility brought together in one beautifully designed, interactive experience. Explore it. Question it. Follow the threads. Share what matters. Keep coming back.

The research may end, but the insight doesn't. Revisit interviews, ask new questions, reconnect with participants, and uncover fresh opportunities long after the reveal. Because understanding should never expire.

3-6 Weeks

Sprint

Sometimes you don’t need a six-month research programme. You just need a confident answer to one important question.

Sprint takes you straight to the people closest to it. We find the right voices, conduct the fieldwork, and turn what we hear into a clear direction in 3-6 weeks.

Headhunting-style participant mapping and recruitment

15-20 in-depth interviews, with full transcripts

Rigorous analysis of the patterns, tensions, and opportunities

A story-led Reveal of the findings, built as an interactive resource to explore, share, and return to

A clear answer, with recommendations for what comes next.

6-12 Weeks

Study

Some challenges can’t be solved with a single answer. They need a fuller understanding of the people, patterns, and tensions shaping your organisation.

Study goes deeper and wider, bringing together multiple audiences and perspectives to reveal what’s really happening and where the biggest opportunities lie.

Detailed audience mapping and headhunting-style recruitment

20–50 in-depth interviews across multiple audiences, with full transcripts

Rigorous analysis connecting the patterns, tensions, and overlooked perspectives

A story-led Reveal of the findings, built as an interactive resource to explore, share, and return to

A collaborative workshop turning the insight into practical strategic opportunities

A new audience or strategic question agreed every quarter

Targeted participant mapping and recruitment for each investigation

10–15 in-depth interviews every quarter, with full transcripts

The internet has been read. The world hasn’t.

We don’t start with a panel, a database, or somebody else’s audience.

Every search starts fresh. We find the right people, speak to them properly, and uncover knowledge that didn’t exist before we went looking for it. Real people. Real conversations. New knowledge, gathered at source.

FROM THE FIELD

Insights & Studies.

We go out into the world, gather something new, and bring back findings organisations can act on.

Research as a creative advantage

Working as Polar’s qualitative insight partner, Gatherer brings first-hand evidence into new-business and live creative briefs. Across travel, yachting, sport, workwear, powersports, and beyond, our research has revealed new commercial opportunities, strengthened strategic thinking, and provided the insights behind big branding and creative ideas.

“Gatherer gives us something exciting and fresh to bring into the studio: a first-hand point of view that strengthens both the strategic thinking and the creative work. The insights are fresh, commercially valuable, and exclusively ours.”

Can you work internationally?

Absolutely.

Some conversations happen remotely. Others benefit from being conducted in homes, workplaces, clubs, venues, or communities.

We design the fieldwork around the people and the question, rather than our postcode.

Do you use AI?

Yes, where it makes the research faster, deeper, or easier to interrogate.

Technology can support audience mapping, transcript processing, pattern exploration, and the organisation of large amounts of qualitative evidence. The conversations, interpretations, and recommendations remain human-led.

We don’t use simulated customers as a substitute for speaking to real people. Gatherer exists to bring fresh human knowledge into decisions increasingly shaped by the same datasets and models. We go to the source: your people.

Do you work alongside agencies?

Yes. Gatherer can work as an embedded or white-label qualitative insight partner alongside an agency’s existing strategy, planning, and creative teams.

We support new-business prospecting with original audience and category insight, then bring first-hand evidence into live brand, campaign, and innovation projects.

The agency retains its client relationship and creative process. We add specialist fieldwork, proprietary findings, and the human explanation behind the data.

Do you only work with brands?

No. We work with organisations whose success depends on understanding people.

That includes sports clubs, membership organisations, creative agencies, brands, products, hospitality and leisure businesses, travel companies, and cultural institutions.

The sector can change. The challenge remains the same: staying close to the people you serve.

How do you find the right people?

We begin by mapping the audience around the question, including the people already close to your organisation and those currently beyond its reach.

From there, we use headhunting-style research and recruitment to find participants with the right experiences, behaviours, and perspectives. This can include customers, members, supporters, employees, prospects, lapsed users, industry figures, influencers, and people who have never previously engaged with you.

Finding the right voices is a fundamental part of the research.

What’s the difference between Sprint, Study, and Dispatches?

Sprint answers one important question fast, usually within 3–6 weeks.

Study investigates a broader challenge across multiple audiences, typically through 20–50 interviews over 6–12 weeks.

Dispatches keeps you connected to your audience through a fresh qualitative investigation every quarter, creating a growing library of first-hand knowledge over time.

What do we actually receive?

You receive the evidence, our interpretation of it, and a practical way to put it to work.

Depending on the engagement, that can include participant mapping, full interview transcripts, thematic analysis, audience groups, commercial opportunities, strategic recommendations, new connections, and a collaborative workshop to work with the findings.

At the centre is a story-led Reveal of the insights uncovered: an interactive resource your team can explore, share, and return to long after the project is complete.

When should we bring you in?

Usually when there is an important decision to make and something about your audience you don’t yet understand.

That might be before developing a strategy, launching a product, repositioning a brand, planning a campaign, changing a membership offer, or entering a new market.

The earlier we uncover the right question and bring real people into the process, the more influence the findings can have on what follows.

What makes Gatherer different?

We focus on three things: finding the right people, listening deeply, and making the findings genuinely useful.

Our participant search is closer to headhunting than conventional panel recruitment. We deliberately seek out the people closest to the question, including valuable voices that are often overlooked or difficult to reach.

Then we turn the fieldwork into a story-led Reveal your team can explore. It might take the form of a crowd, a journey, a map, a changing room, or an interactive auditorium where clickable empty seats tell their own stories about who’s missing, and why.

The interface changes because the research changes. The result is first-hand knowledge presented in a form people enjoy, remember, share, and use.

How do you know you’re hearing more than individual opinions? Who cares what Bob and Sue think?

Because the value isn't in any one opinion. It's in what we discover across carefully chosen conversations.

Qualitative research isn't about asking a handful of people to speak for everyone. It's about choosing the right people, asking the right questions, and listening closely enough to understand what's really going on.

We build every participant group intentionally, bringing together the right mix of experiences, behaviours, attitudes, and perspectives. Then we follow the interesting answers and look for the patterns, tensions, motivations, and contradictions that emerge.

One person's comment is an opinion. When the same themes start appearing across different conversations, you begin to see something bigger.

Bob and Sue matter because Bob and Sue are your people. Your customers, members, fans, employees, or prospects. Their individual stories help us understand the bigger forces shaping your audience.

Data can tell you what is happening. A good conversation can tell you why.

Is this market research?

Yes. Qualitative market research, rethought for how organisations work today.

Every project begins with a live business question. We use carefully designed fieldwork to understand the people, experiences, and motivations surrounding it, then connect what we discover to the decision that needs to be made.

The result is commercially valuable insight with a clear purpose, rather than research conducted for its own sake.
